When I started my business in the US, I didn't know a soul. I was a beauty school drop out and just completed Broadcast Journalism. Newly married I packed my bags and headed to the other side of the continent! Ready to be a wife and build a family. That was over 16 years ago, and today I am happily divorced and discovered I can't have children. Life had a different plan for me, and it's a blessing either way
I dove into the hair extension industry because it was natural to me. I'm a "Lifer," and I've been wearing extensions since I was 17 years old. I literally have grown up in the billion dollar hair extension industry. I've witnessed and tried all the good and bad.
When I moved to Maryland, I endured 3 bad sets of extensions. The first time the extensions were so close to the scalp that I had minor Alopecia, the second... the hair was a synthetic and heat resistant which I thought was good but it fell out within weeks, and the salon wouldn't accept my calls...and the third...I decided to drive to a Metropolitan city and paid $1500. The hair was purchased on eBay (I saw the packaging), the hair knotted and tangled.
These are just some of the reasons that I started my first private salon in Baltimore. If you had asked me 20 years ago, would I be living in a small town, single and working in a salon?! I would probably giggle. I wanted to be a Broadcaster until L-O-V-E got in the way. LOL
Here's the thing. There's no place I'd rather be. I have traveled to China, Hong Kong, Japan, and Italy in search of my own brand of extensions. I've taken pretty much every class there is known to man. I even took a "7 Methods MasterClass" in Canada recently. WHY? To make sure I was on my A-game. (The second day, I walked out of class traumatized).
How did I start teaching other stylists how to do what I love?! Again. It wasn't planned. Thanks to Social Media, photos began circling, the phone started ringing, and one-on-one training began. I soon realized that I am in love with my job.
Which is why I am blogging today! I've shared a little about me, now will you share a little about YOU? I know some of you are "ballin' on a budget"! I've created a Beta Test Questionnaire, that will help me develop and build education geared towards your needs. It will take about 10 minutes of your time.
